The students of DAV Bariatu, Ranchi, Jharkhand, visited the Chemical Department of BIT Mesra, Ranchi, as part of an industrial visit program. The visit aimed to provide students with hands-on exposure to the practical applications of chemistry and explore the prospects of the subject in real-world scenarios.
Session 1: R and D Seminar Hall 2
The visit began with a session addressed by Dr. Shubendu Naskar, who discussed the development of low-cost electrocatalysts for hydrogen production by water splitting. This was followed by presentations by Dr. Sumit Mishra and Dr. Pratim Chattaraj, who elaborated on the procedures involved and its potential for futuristic career plans. Dr. Munuchura Sahay spoke about the plans to cure cancer and neurological diseases using microchips, explaining the working principle and theory of self-designed microdevices that infuse with the immune system.
The students then visited various chemistry labs, including:
1. Organic Lab: Demonstrations on the separation of solutes from solvents by altering vapour pressure and the uses of reflux apparatus were conducted.
2. NMR Lab: Students learned about the utilization of spectroscopy to determine the structure of compounds, radioactivity, electron position, and number of protons.
3. Environmental Chemistry Lab: The visit introduced students to different water control research initiatives.
The industrial visit provided students with valuable insights into the practical applications of chemistry, enhancing their understanding of the subject. The visit was deemed highly informative and enjoyable, sparking interest in exploring the prospects of chemistry in real-world scenarios.
